In order to equip the secondary school students who participated in the ¡§Summer Virtual Enterprise Training Programme 2002¡¨ with the basic and necessary skills in running their own virtual enterprise, three mass lectures were held by HKNVE on 15, 17 and 19 July.
On 15 July, Mrs. Irene Lau (Manager of the Central Office of HKNVE) gave a lecture on ¡§What is a Virtual Enterprise?¡¨. In the lecture, students were not only introduced to the concept of Virtual Enterprise (VE), but also taught how to set up a Virtual Enterprise, how to solicit a business mentor, and how to apply for a job in a VE, etc..
In the second lecture, Miss Fion Man (Lecturer of the Department of Business Services & Management of IVE (Tsing Yi)) briefed students on the skills and techniques of writing a business plan. Miss Man further explained the role and importance of market analysis, and advertising & promotion strategies for a business. Basic accounting knowledge, such as how to estimate and calculate the start-up costs for an enterprise, how to prepare the Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets, was also covered.
As Information Technology is of paramount importance nowadays, and has become an indispensable tool for a business, the last mass lecture was therefore allocated on the topic of ¡§How to Build a Website¡¨. During the lecture, Dr. Joe Chan (Lecturer of the Department of Business Services & Management of IVE (Tsing Yi)) showed students the basic steps in building up a website, and introduced the techniques and tools which can be used to enhance the appeal and attractiveness of the website. At the end of the lecture, each participating team was assigned a web hosting account for hosting its VE¡¦s website.
On 12 August, i.e. the deadline for submitting business plans and websites for the ¡§Summer Virtual Enterprise Training Programme 2002¡¨, the Central Office of HKNVE received a total of 113 business plans and websites from 662 students of 64 secondary schools.
After the first-round of judging, the Top 12 finalists were selected and announced on HKNVE¡¦s website on 23 August. The standard of work submitted by most teams are above our expectation.
On 29 August, the Top 12 finalist teams made oral presentations in front of a Panel of Judges, consisting of Mrs. Agnes Mak (Chairperson of the Hong Kong Computer Society¡¦s IT in Education Committee), Miss Carman Chan (Managing Editor of Hong Kong Economic Times¡¦ English Street), Miss Mina Yip (Advisor of VTC¡¦s Teaching and Learning Centre) and Miss Yvonne Lam (Seconded Teacher of the Technology Education of the Education Department). Each team was given about half an hour for the presentation.
