The Summer Virtual Enterprise Training Programme 2002 Awards Day & Closing Ceremony was held on 9 Oct 2002 from 5-7pm at the Canteen of the IVE (Tsing Yi) campus. About 300 guests, mainly educators, students and business mentors, attended the Ceremony.
Prof. Lee Ngok, Executive Director of Vocational Training Council, welcomed the guests.
The highlights of the Ceremony were the speeches given by our keynote and guest speakers. Dr. Eden Woon, CEO of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, talked about the uniqueness of Hong Kong and encouraged the students to work hard and thrive on the challenges of the current economic downturn. Mr. Arthur Shek, Associate Publisher & Head of Research Department of HK Economic Times, spoke on change and how to cope with change.
Certificates of Recognition were presented to representatives of the participants - Business Mentors, Secondary School Teachers, Secondary School Students, IVE Lecturers and IVE Trainee Facilitators.
This was followed by presentation of Awards to the ten winning teams, Hang Seng School of Commerce being the Overall Champion.
The experience sharing sessions were very interesting:
The students of two winning teams, Hang Seng School of Commerce and CUHK FAA Thomas Cheung Secondary School, shared with us their fears and joys, what they went through and what they have learned from the Training Programme. As Dr. Woon mentioned, it is not the winning, but the process, that is most important. In this sense, every participant in the Programme is a winner.
An IVE Student Facilitator told us that he learned a lot alongside the students under his charge.
Mr. Gavin Lau, Business Mentor of the Overall Champion, gave a very lively speech on the win-win aspects of mentorship.
Prof. K.K. Lo, Principal of IVE (Tsing Yi Nexus), presented souvenirs to the speakers, judges and sponsors. And finally Mr. Alexander Mak, Chairman of the Steering Committee of HKNVE, gave the closing remarks and thanked all the parties who have contributed to the Programme.
We received high commendation on the Closing Ceremony from many of the guests. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the support of all the staff and student helpers at the IVE(Tsing Yi Nexus), who, through their concerted effort and cooperation, have helped to make the event a great success.
