On 19 Dec 2002, Mr. Liu Poon Keung, Principal of Fung Kai No.1 Secondary School and Mr. Chan Wing Ping, Principal of Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School, with two teachers respectively, visited HKNVE.
Mrs. Irene Lau, Manager of HKNVE Central Office, introduced the VE concept and ways to obtain a business mentor. Mrs. Elaine Wong, Senior Lecturer of Department of Business Services and Management of IVE (Morrison Hill), explained different ways to implement the VE learning model, giving examples of IVE and different secondary schools taking part in VE.
As commerce and accounting subjects are not taught in the Fung Kai schools, Mr. Liu and Mr. Chan are interested to look at ways of applying VE in other subjects. The possibilities of applying VE in economics and languages were explored. Mrs. Lau also explained that through VE, life-wide learning could also be introduced in schools. She told the visitors that during a recent meeting, Mr. Stephen Yip, who is in charge of the Life-wide Learning initiative of the Education Department of the Hong Kong Government, opined that the VE learning model embodies the three key elements of life-wide learning: Extension, Enrichment and Empowerment. The possibility of providing relevant training to their students was also discussed. The idea is to equip the students with basic knowledge required for setting up and operating a VE.
After the briefing session, the visitors were given a presentation by the Marriage Studio VE, a registered VE providing wedding services set up by students from IVE (Morrison Hill). Members of the VE introduced how the VE project is run in IVE and the role of facilitators. The Sales Manager introduced the scope of services and explained the key selling points of their VE. Their IT Manage showed the main features of their website and future development. The visitors showed great interest in their presentation and Mr. Liu commended on the high quality of work demonstrated by the students.
