HKNVE Central Office attended Virtual Enterprises Expo 2003

Virtual Enterprises Expo 2003, organized by the Department of Business Administration at IVE (Sha Tin Nexus), was held on 7-8 March 2003. This provided another opportunity for students to experience the simulated business environment and practice their presentation skills. There were a total of twenty-eight booths exhibiting their goods and services. Twenty-one Virtual Enterprises (VEs) were from IVE (Sha Tin Nexus) and three were from IVE (Tsing Yi Nexus). Three secondary schools also set up their VE booth displays in the Expo. They were Sacred Heart Canossian College of Commerce, Yan Chai Hospital Tung Chi Ying Memorial Secondary School and TWGHs Kwok Yat Wai College. The Central Office of HKNVE took part in the Expo to meet the Network members, and to promote its services.

In the Opening Ceremony on 7 March 2003, thought-provoking speeches were given by the honourable guests, Mr. Alexander Mak, Chairman of the Steering Committee of HKNVE and Partner of Ernst & Young Ltd., and Mr. Tom Tong, Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Exporters' Association, Chairman of Hong Kong Printed Circuit Association and Managing Director of Meadville Technology Group. Mr. Thomson Lee, Chairman of Ocean Discovery Ltd., Managing Director of Harbour Jet Shipping Ltd. and Managing Director of Ocean Jet Development Ltd., shared his experiences as a Business Mentor.

"The main purpose of holding the Virtual Enterprises Expo", as pointed out by Dr. Lawrence Chan, Acting Deputy Executive Director (Corporate) of VTC, in the Opening Speech, ¡§is to provide an opportunity for students from different BA Departments to meet with each other, build up the network with the VE facilitators, business mentors, trainers, educators, and representatives from public and private industry. Through these meetings, they can see virtual business training in action, share information and explore the philosophies, educational objectives and delivery strategies. Ultimately, the enterprise education collaboration will be enhanced.¡¨

The guests were invited to visit the booths, which were set up and decorated by the students. The VE students introduced their business, and promoted their products and services to the visitors. The visitors were supplied with Virtual Enterprise cheques for purchases, and a lot of trading activities took place.

The Virtual Enterprise Expo 2003 was a great success. It added a milestone to the development of Virtual Enterprises in Hong Kong and helps to pave the way for the First Hong Kong International Trade Fair and Conference to be held in March 2004.
