Mass Lectures
In order to equip the secondary school students who participate in the "'Summer Virtual Enterprise Training Programme 2003" with the basic and necessary skills in setting up their own virtual enterprises, three mass lectures were held by HKNVE on 22, 23 and 25 July at IVE (Tsing Yi), IVE (Morrison Hill), IVE (Tuen Mun) and IVE (Sha Tin). More than 1,000 secondary students joined the mass lectures with their IVE Trainee Facilitators.
The first lecture aimed at giving students an idea on "What is a Virtual Enterprise?". During the lecture, students learnt the concept of Virtual Enterprise (VE), the steps of setting up a Virtual Enterprise, and ways of soliciting a business mentor for their VE.
In the second lecture, students were briefed on the skills and techniques of writing a business plan. Students learnt the basic ideas on the role and function of market analysis, advertising & promotion strategies, as well as accounting principles, including how to estimate and calculate the start-up costs for an enterprise, how to prepare the Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets.
The last mass lecture was on "How to Build a Website". Students learnt the basic steps in building a website, and the techniques and tools for enhancing the appeal and attractiveness of the website. At the end of the lecture, each participating team was assigned a web hosting account for hosting its VE's website.
The students found the lectures to be very useful. With the newly acquired
knowledge and skills, and the help from the IVE Trainee Facilitators, the secondary
school students would now proceed to the next steps of the Training Programme,
namely, setting up a Virtual Enterprise, seeking a business mentor, preparing
and writing a business plan and building a website for their virtual company.
