Seminar on Virtual Enterprise Project 2003-04

The two sessions of the Seminar on Virtual Enterprise Project were held at IVE (Tsing Yi) and IVE (Shatin) on 7 July 2003 and 11 July 2003 respectively. The aims of the seminar were to promote the concept of Virtual Enterprise Education to secondary schools and to help them better understand the Virtual Enterprises (VE) teaching and learning model.

Participants from 18 secondary schools took part in the Seminar, hoping to explore more about the Virtual Enterprise concept. Mrs. Irene Lau, Manager of the Hong Kong Network of Virtual Enterprises Central Office, gave a warm welcome to the participants and briefly introduced "What is a Virtual Enterprise". Then, Mr. Chung Yiu Bun, Senior Curriculum Development Officer, Life-wide Learning Section of the Education and Manpower Bureau, shared his views on the similarity between Virtual Enterprise and Life-wide Learning. He also explained the idea of "learning beyond the classroom" by "extending", "enriching" and "enabling".

After that, IVE VE facilitators illustrated VE practices and model by giving real examples. They also shared their valuable experiences and personal views on VE. The facilitators included Ms. Judy Ng, Senior Lecturer of Department of Business Services and Management of IVE (Tsing Yi); Mr. Ricky Cheng, Senior Lecturer of Department of Business Administration of IVE (Shatin) and Ms. Alice Cheng, Lecturer of Department Business Administration of IVE (Kwun Tong).

On the other hand, two VE members from secondary schools, including Creative Ad-Maker VE of Yan Chai Hospital Tung Chi Ying Memorial Secondary School and Magic Toys VE of TWGHs Kwok Yat Wai College, gave vivid presentations to introduce the structures and the business natures of their VEs respectively. They also shared some feelings and experiences about taking part in VE activities in the last academic year. Participants were impressed by their confident and smooth delivery. Their high-quality presentation certainly reflected some of the key benefits of the VE learning model, such as increased employability, reinforced self-esteem and confidence and competitive competencies in IT and creativity.

VE facilitator and members of TWGHs Kwok Yat Wai College explained the ˇ§reformˇ¨ undertaken in their VE and its missions. VE facilitators and members of YCH Tung Chi Ying Memorial Secondary School reviewed the activities held this year and shared their valuable experiences.
